Career & Technical Education Programs

Career & Technical Education (CTE) courses are part of an overall program of study designed to prepare students to be successful in a rapidly changing workforce and equip them to make informed decisions about future college and career pathways. Students will learn about CTE opportunities in middle school, so they can start developing a plan for their high school courses. CTE courses are available starting in 9th grade.

 

Our Career and Technical Education programs offer students opportunities to earn highly valued industry certifications and to develop a multitude of skills while experiencing a rigorous curriculum with real-world applications.  If a student earns a certificate that is on the statewide Gold Standard Career Pathways Industry Certification Articulation Agreement and chooses to pursue the course of study that aligns with that specific certificate, they could earn free college credit.

 

These programs are a 2-4-year commitment and require students to take and pass multiple courses and assessments.  If a student is not interested in pursuing a CTE certification they may still be able to take the class for a general elective credit. This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Information Technology career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Information Technology career cluster. 

 

The content includes but is not limited to computer application skills including computer hardware, software applications, applications, computer programming, webpage design and advanced web tools, systems support and maintenance, network concepts, relational database concepts, multimedia tools, cybersecurity; extensive exploration of information technology careers; strategies for success including goal setting, study skills, organizing skills, learning styles, employability skills, and service learning; and core academic skills with a strong emphasis on effective communication skills. This career pathway is offered at the Riverview Campus. 

 

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Transportation, Distribution and Logistics career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Transportation, Distribution and Logistics career cluster. 

 

The content includes but is not limited to broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the Automotive industry; planning, management, finance, technical and product skills, underlying principles of technology, labor issues, community issues and health, safety, and environmental issues.  This career pathway is offered at the Riverview and Tampa Campuses. 

 

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Hospitality & Tourism career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Hospitality & Tourism career cluster. This career pathway is offered at the Riverview and Tampa Campuses.

 

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for initial employment in the Digital Cinema Production field as equipment operators, camera assistants, sound equipment operators, editing equipment operators, set builders, grips and lighting equipment operators and visual effect artists. 

 

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Arts, A/V Technology and Communication career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Arts, A/V Technology and Communication career cluster.  

 

The content includes, but is not limited to, the history of cinema, the use of photo editing software, production writing and management, art direction, lighting, cinematography, audio production, post production and stereography. This career pathway is offered at the Tampa Campus.

 

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Health Science career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of Health Science career cluster. 

 

This course is designed to prepare students for employment as nursing assistants SOC- 31-1014 (Nursing Assistants) in nursing homes, hospitals, or other health care facilities.  The content includes, but is not limited to, interpersonal skills, medical terminology, legal and ethical responsibilities, safe and efficient work, gerontology, nutrition, pet-facilitated therapy, health and safety including Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – heart saver level, and employability skills. This career pathway is offered at the Riverview Campus.

 

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the manufacturing career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order rea­soning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the manufacturing career cluster. 

 

This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills to prepare students for employment in the welding industry.  The content includes but is not limited to planning, management, technical and product skills, underlying principles of technology, labor issues, community issues and health, safety, and environmental issues.  This career pathway is offered at the Riverview Campus.
